Agnanti: A Greek Standout

Agnanti fare has a real homespun feel and cuisine they only sometimes bother to translate into English on the menu. No matter, the atmosphere is lively and punctuated with feisty older waitresses that clearly run the place with a velvet fist. There's a fair amount of comfortable outdoor seating and the menu is extensive enough to work your way through a drink or two before you decide.

Their sausages are delicious, especially if you like your meat charred beyond recognition (don't judge me). Their soup of the day proved to be a highlight of the meal, with every last drop soaked up by at least two baskets full of hearty bread. Also known for its meze selection, Agnanti keeps the majority of its dishes simple and small enough for tapas-style sharing. The most appealing part of the meal will probably be the proximity to Astoria Park and the sidewalk menagerie that waddles by throughout dinner. Once prime time hits, around 7, a line begins to form even on weeknights, so arriving early is recommended.
