Coming Soon

Broadway is in a constant state of flux with all the construction and jack hammers that implies. One of the swankier joints to catch our eye was Gleason's, a classically styled pub with a long, gorgeous bar up front and a TV or two inside. It was tough to get much of a look inside, even after prying open a piece of dangling plywood. Regardless, an old world feel would be welcome on the busy thoroughfare, just a few lurches from the N/W line. Cheers!

In other news, Cherry Cafe is less "coming soon" than it is "opening never." This place, located on Broadway a block past Gleason's, completed construction a number of weeks ago but has yet to throw open its doors to the Astorian masses. The interior looks like a standard cafe but hopefully the name denotes a different spin on what's already saturating the avenue. Maybe cherry-infused burgers with Cherry Garcia for dessert? Maybe not, but look what Wikipedia mentions about Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia creation: "For a month following the musician's death in 1995, the ice cream was made with black cherries instead of Bings cherries as a show of mourning." Tribute through produce, always a good way to go. Anyway, if anyone knows what's going on with this place, speak up!
