Cup Diner: Cup Half Empty?

This place is more hit-or-miss than an amateur shooting range. There are some solid favorites like the coconut French toast and goat cheese omelet, but beyond breakfast Cup Diner is inconsistent and bland. A few pluses: Cup remains open 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday and a full bar occupies the middle of the enormous dining area while the wait staff is always friendly.
However, the place is so spacious, it lacks the cozy feel of many of Astoria’s best brunch spots and you’ll need to send a carrier pigeon if you’d like to pay your bill before the night shift ends. Ultimately, Cup Diner delivers good breakfast basics at reasonable prices without ever having to battle lines at the door. For all your other gastronomic needs, head elsewhere.
