Sunswick

As a sign of sheer cosmic brillance, Sunswick's address at 35th St. and 35th Ave. is just the kind of thing that sticks in the minds of inebriated patrons everywhere as they stroll in from all corners of Astoria. The bartender, Jared, is a fixture on the scene who's never slow with a smile and a frothing mug of Six Point, if it's on tap. Beer-wise, Sunswick's got its fair share with a healthy rotation of top notch libations for the more discerning crowd.

Beyond the drinks, Sunswick's food is startlingly good. Tasty enough, in fact, to warrant multiple trips for the Cuban sandwich alone. In the middle of the afternoon, with no beer to wash it down. The chicken club sandwich is slathered in a chipotle mayo sauce that requires methadone to ween yourself off. The bacon is consistently crispy and the sandwich, rather than some sorry excuse for pub food, is a hearty rendition of 7 thousand grain bread- denser than a brick and just strong enough to support a generous heaping of chipotle sauce. Sunswick also does a great job with its sweet potatoe fries as they arrive with just enough grease to ease that menacing hangover you might be nursing after a typical night among Sunswick's regulars.
