Thai Pavilion

Thai Pavilion, long considered a jewel of 30th Ave's thriving culinary scene, lives up to its reputation as a perennial favorite. With its recent redesign inside, the restaurant has upgraded its atmosphere somewhat. Though it still feels rather clinical, the setting is certainly not a deal breaker. The menu, stuffed in the "takeout" drawers of countless Astoria apartments, is extensive and finely-tuned for the spice-loving diner. The lunch specials are a good deal while the dinner entrees run to the higher side of average with a recent Massaman chicken curry dish (rice included) costing $15.

Though it lacks the same caliber of creativity as Leng, Thai Pavilion is a terrific standby for those nights you can't bring yourself to turn on the stove. The dumplings are a bit lackluster but the noodle dishes are top-notch, especially the Pad See Ew. Another notable dish is the Peanut Chicken special which arrives topped with chopped peanuts and slathered in a tangy traditional Thai sauce whose flavors take minutes to unravel with every bite.
